Colorado’s Dispute Resolution Act (C.R.S. § 13 22 301 et seq.) provides the basic legal framework for mediation used in courts and private practice.

Many Colorado courts encourage or order mediation, particularly in divorce and parenting cases, before allowing a case to proceed to a contested trial.

Agreements reached in mediation can be submitted to the court in writing so a judge can consider adopting them as enforceable court orders.
