ODR Domestic Relations | Family Mediation
Family Mediation
Family Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution process for couples who are separating, divorcing, or who have children in common, offering a non-judgmental approach to resolving issues. During this process, a neutral third party (the mediator) helps the couple negotiate and reach agreements on a range of issues related to their case, such as parenting time, property division, spousal maintenance, and other relevant matters.
The ultimate goal of family mediation is to promote effective communication and cooperation between the parties involved and to assist them in achieving mutually acceptable outcomes that meet their individual needs. The mediator facilitates the process by providing a safe and confidential environment for the parties to express their concerns and discuss possible solutions. Through this collaborative and constructive approach, family mediation can help reduce stress, conflict, and the cost and time of traditional legal proceedings.
Family law cases typically fall
into two main categories:
Pre-decree divorce cases
These begin when one of the parties files a petition with the court to initiate the divorce process.
Post-decree divorce cases
These involve petitions filed by either party which seek to modify the terms of the court's original divorce order or the order issued by the judge in a hearing.
Additional information is available at the court’s website
DR Mediation provides a convenient, time-saving and cost-effective alternative to the traditional litigated dispute resolution methods of resolving domestic relations cases.
